Katowice is capitol of Silesia area, the South of Poland. It is second the largest city of Poland and the most industrialized part of the country. The city belongs to the Katowice urban area (also known as the Upper Silesian urban area). This area is the largest urban area of Poland and one of the biggest in the European Union. In this area live almost 5,5 millions people. In this area is located many coal mines and steel industries. Kattowitz gained city status in 1865

Night-life
In Katowice you can find a lot of restaurants, cafes, cocktail bars and clubs moving . The centre of nightlife is Mariacka street. There are many clubs, pubs and discos. Katowice is very large city, where is located many shopping malls. This malls are located in the area immediately north of the train station. They offer clothes, alcohols, electronics, etc. Small shops, where you can buy souvenirs, are located around Katowice market.

Katowice are very young city compare to Krakow or Wroclaw. The city do not have very old sights but is characterized by modernity. In Katowice we can see:

Katowice has a the temperate-continental climate and with relatively cold winters and warm summers. In winter temperature are typically around zero and in summer temperature are between 20 and 25 °C. The rainiest month is July and the hottest period of time are holidays.
Public transportation
In Katowice you can find public buses and trams which are manage by KZK GOP. This public transport valid throughout the Upper Silesian urban area. It is one of the largest tram networks in Poland.
