Welcome to Tulum - The City of Maya’s ruins

Tulum is situated in the South-East of Mexico, in the Riviera Maya Maya region and in the Quintana Roo state. Along the Caribbean sea, the city is an archaeological site of an ancient maya city-state. In the past, it used to be an important harbour and was then conquered by the Spanish. Nowadays, Tulum is well-known for its ruins and for its beaches.
Night-life :
Playa del carmen is a place where you can find all you want, restaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs. Elsewhere in the city are other unique places where you can drink morito or cocktail.
Shopping :
In Tulum, the most come type of shop is the souvenirs ones as it is a touristic city.
Suenos Maya's, close to Tulum ruins, it is a big shop where you can find a large selection of gifts and jewels.
In Playa del Carmen, there are also a lot of shops.

Tulum ruins, an archaeological place where the Maya ruins of Tulum stand.
The rampart, separates the city in 2 parts so that the heart of the city used to be protected from attacks. It has also two observation towers.
The Castillo, Tulum’s most famous monument. Standing at the edge of a cliff, it is the highest building of the city.
The temples, places dedicated to Gods. There you can discover frescos on the wall dealing with supernatural individuals.
Casa del cenote, a place where you can learn and practice scuba diving.

Climate :
Tulum has a subtropical climate. There are 2 seasons. The first one, from May to November, is the rain period. It has an average of 32 °C and there may have hurricanes. The second one, from December to April, is the dry period. The weather is sunny with an average of 28 °C. In favour of visiting the city, March is the best month since it is scarcely raining, in the air the temperature is around 30 °C and in the water 26 °C.
How to move in the city ?
There is a local bus called the Tiburon which links Tulum pueblo and Tulum beach but tourists are not allowed to use it since it is for local workers. Other buses are coming from Cancun.
You can find vans, called collectivos, that run up and down the main highway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. This is the easiest and cheapest way to move around the city. As they only drop you off along the highway, if you want to go to the sights you should better take a taxi.
If you want to get there by plane, you will arrive at the international airport of Cancun and then will have to take a bus to reach Tulum.
