The town was known since the 14th century for its said to be virtuous curative mineral water by people such as the Pope Boniface VIII or Michelangelo. Soon its water "Acqua di Fiuggi" was bottled and sent to all of European royalty. When in the 20th century spas came fashionable, the king of Italy renaimed the town, previously called Anticoli di Campagna, in honour of its most celebrated attraction, the spa town.
Every 2nd of February wooden pyramids are burned in the principal square of the town to remember the miracle of the stuzze, when San Biagio let appear fake flames to get rid of the invading troops and make them believe the place was already assaulted.
