Welcome to Lille - The city known for art and architecture

The city of Lille is situated in the North of France near to the Belgium frontier. Its has some Flanders influences, which you can find in the architecture of the city with the City Hall and Beffroi. Lille was a worker city and a good textile industry until the 70`s (the industrial crisis) which was very intense in the 80`s with a hight unemployment rate. The city had a turn over and develop the tertiary sector . It’s started around 1983 until 1994: the offices were build and replace the factories and workshop, they open a subway line, then the Lille-Paris TGV open ( now Paris is only one hour away from Lille), the channel tunnel, for finish the North European Lille, London, Brussels TGV and the opening of Euralille (its an important business district in the center of the city which is strategically place in the intersection of the railway linking London, Brussels and Paris). Now is a dual tourist city where you can find the old Lille with a typical architecture, and new architecture almost futuristic some time. There is a lot to visit in this town but the principal places to visit are the old Lille, the Grand Place, Palais des Beaux-Arts (a museum), La Vieille Bourse, City Hall and its beffroi, The Citadelle, The Palais Rihour, Euralille, The Swimming pool, Art and industry Museum André Diligent in Roubaix, LaM in Villeneuve d'Ascq and in September La braderie de Lille (sort of Fleas market). A lot of French people are doing their studies in this town so Lille is a very young, dynamic town with a night life.

there is well-known Braderie de Lille which starts the first week end of September for two days, and the Christmas market in December. For the rest of the year there are different markets:

and you can find in old Lille, in the center of the city and Euralille luxury items, design and good deals in Wazemmes.
