Las Terrenas- The French Village

Las Terrenas is a town located in the Samaná province on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. It's known for its scenic landscapes, white sand beaches and clear waters. When established the town was a small fishing village but because of investments in tourist infrastructure tourism is constantly growing and the old fishermen's cabins have been transforming to hotels, clubs, restaurants and shopping centres.
Sightseeing
There are a lot things to do in Las Terrenas. It is possible to relax on the beach all the day or taking surf lesson or kite-surfing lesson or both. Las Terrenas is famous for it attraction of watching the whales. This attraction is available from January to March. Local things to do is trying to eat some French patisserie, smok Las Terrenas cigar's and buy a piece of local art. The price can be negotiate.
Night-life
Las Terrenas is a city who never stop: people still dancing until the sunrise. There are five bars, 2 nightclubs and one cigar bar and one piano bars. The cigar bar is called “Mundo Puro” and it is located near the “Super Mercado Lindo”. The piano bar is named “Chi-Chi Piano bar” and it is located near the beach. Do not forget that evening public transportation as motorconchos increase their prices.
Shopping
There are 3 shopping centres to do visit: Paseo de la Costanera, Puerto Plaza and Laksmi Shop. For exemple Puerto Plaza is a shopping mall with 30 shop and it is also a luxury hotel. As in all the city there are some supermarkets and some little shops where it is possible to buy local and home made things.

Climate
Las Terrenas has tropical climate. The rainfall is significant with precipitation even during the driest month. The temperature averages 26 °C and the average annual rainfall is 1925 mm. The driest month is February with 93 mm of rain and in May the precipitation reaches its peak with an average of 235 mm. July is the warmest month of the year when the temperature is averaging 27.3 °C and the January is the coldest as the temperature averages 24.2 °C.
Public transportation
The cheaper way to discover the city is to take a motorconchos. It is a motor taxi that can take two passengers and it is cost only 12.5 pesos per kilometres. There is also collective taxis who can bring you to other cities near Las Terrenas. If you have your driver licence it is possible to rent a scooter for 20$ per day or a 4x4 for 55$.
