The summer’s London 2012 Festival is the cultural accompaniment of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The festival begins officially on June 21 and ends on September 9. Today the director of the Festival Ruth Mackenzie announced the programme’s highlights that will include 12,000 events and performances.
Actually the festival began directly after the Beijing Olympics in an ongoing of cultural performances, but from the 21th of June we will assist at the finale. During these three months in all the United Kingdom over 25,000 artists will provide you with spectacular events. Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary, defined the festival “a celebration of the remarkable culture we have in this country”.
Two of the major events will be held in Windermere and in Birmingham. In Windermere the French street arts company Les Commandos Percu will perform in a spectacular pyrotechnic and musical show, whereas in Birmingham the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra presents the UK premier of Weltethos, an ambitious choral work by Jonathan Harvey.
The 12,000 planned out events, including a large number of musical performances, are expected to be followed by 18 million people from all over the world.
