Night life

A fact which is important to know about the night life of Bergen: the city is divided. In the area around Floyen are the discos and clubs for the chic public. If you are more into rock`n`roll or tradition, you should visit the area around Nygardshoyden. Consequently, you will find a mix of foreigners and students in all places. To become more specific, a place known for its great list of drinks and always busy: "No Stress" is voted as the best bar in Bergen. At the disco "Feliz Bar" you will get everything what you expect from a chic night club: dresscode, good music, strict security, expensive prices, late parties. But how Norway defines "late" for nightclubs is pretty relative - all bars and clubs close between 1 and 3am. However, it is still worth visiting places such as "Contra Bar", "Engelen Night Club" or "Rick`s". 

 

Shopping

In Bergen are plenty of tempting shops to find. On the one hand, there are many small, specialized shops that represents the history of the city. Traditional and cosy bakeries (E.g. "Solbrod"), bookstores and all kinds of craft shops: "Made in Bergen Retail" belongs to the cool underground shops in Bergen, "Husfliden Handcraft Bergen" was established in 1895 to promote Norwegian handcraft or "Olena Knitting" is Olena`s own brand shop in which you can find prize-awarded Norwegian design produced in Bergen. On the other hand, you will find large department stores and shopping centres. Among the city center the best ones are "Kloverhuset" in Strandgaten and Bergen Storesenter near the bus and train stations; "Lagunen Storesenter" - the biggest shopping centre of Bergen - you will find in the south of the city center.

 

Sightseeing

Visitors will get in the pleasure of many attractions to experience in Bergen. One of the most popular ones is the "Bergen Aquarium" which is perfect for families or anybody who is intereseted in the deep of the sea with all its creatures. Futhermore, the very first buildings in Bergen alongside the harbour - called Bryggen - create the most famous part of Bergen. The architecture of Bryggen is unique and, therefore, on the list of UNESCO`s world heritage of history and culture. Besides that, you can find many museums in Bergen, such as "Kode" (the art museum of Bergen) or the "Hanseatic Museum and Shotstuene Museum Vest" which is located in one of the oldest and best preserved wooden buildings in Bergen. Once you are in Bergen, you should enjoy the beauty of its surrounding nature. The Floibanen Funicular brings you in an only 8 minute ride from the city centre to the top of Mount Floyen. Up there, you will enjoy an amazing view over Bergen and the suburbs.

Public transport

Bergen is very nice to explore by foot but a good bus system is always useful, therefore, there is a free shuttle bus (bus 100) which conntects the bus with the train station and the city center. Besides the busses for seeing the city, there are ferries to explore the fjords and nature around Bergen or.
