Destinations > Greece > Corfu
Corfu is the second largest Greek island in the Ionian sea. Hot and dry summers and generous rain falling winters create a green Mediterranean vegetation. Corfu was long ruled by Venice and then by Britain after Napoleonic wars: the island was definitely unified to Greece with the Treaty of London in 1864. The biggest village is Corfu Town, where you can land if you travel by cruise or by plane. The highlight in Corfu is surely its beautiful coast: here you can choose between quite, sandy or rocky beaches as well as many resorts for spending your holidays. Beside tourism, Corfu’s economy is based on production and exportation of typical products such as olive oil and many type of wines. Corfu is also famous for its relation with the Greek myth: several museums and statues around the island celebrate the ancient past of Corfu.
