Southampton is the largest city in Hampshire, situated on the south coast of England and lying on Southampton Water’s estuary. Since medieval times, this is an important commercial city: its port is one of the busiest in United Kingdom and leads the region’s economy, welcoming container ships and cruises everyday. This is the port where Titanic sailed away on 10th April 1912 for its unfortunate voyage to New York. A Titanic Memorial is planned to be open in 2012, even tough Titanic memories and other Southampton heritages are celebrated in the Maritime Museum placed in an historical Wool House. Mayflower Theatre and Guildhall often host famed artists’ live performances attracting many visitors. The city also houses the University of Southampton and Solent University that reach together almost 40 000 students.
